About Education in Lithuania

Lithuania is one of the three Baltic countries with a population of 3.2 million, approximately. Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania, is the biggest city of the country. Lithuania is a member of NATO, Counsil of Europe and European Union, uses Euro as its currency and is among Schengen countries. Official language of the country is Lithuanian and country’s calling code is 370. Lithuania is in the same time zone with Turkey.

Citizens of Lithuania, as the constitutional duty, have 10 years of formal education and this education ends at the age of 16.

Undergraduate education in the country, out of exceptionals, takes 3 years. There are also 2 year colleges. There are 36 universities, 6 private institutes, 16 colleges and 11 private colleges in the country. University of Vilnius is the oldest university of the North Europe. Kaunas University of Technology is the biggest technical university of the Baltic countries and Lithuania.

There are approximately 300 undergraduate and 200 graduate programmes, 400 of all the programmes are taught in English, in the institutes and the universities. In order to graduate from undergraduate programs, 180 or 240 ECTS credits must be collected, to graduate from master’s, 90 or 120 ECTS credits must be collected.

To apply to undergraduate programmes, secondary education diploma or equivalent,

To apply to graduate programmes, undergraduate diploma or equivalent,

To apply to doctoral programmes, master’s degree or equivalent is needed.

Also, all the documents to submit must be recognised by Republic of Lithuania.

Language proficiency requirements must be proved by valid documents or an adequate score must be obtained from language proficiency examination carried out by the institute.

Each Higher Education institution also offers scholarships from its own funds to students who satisfy the specified requirements. Interested students should apply to the specific institution to find out if funding is available for their studies.

Undergraduate programmes: 2500 € - 5500 €

Graduate programmes: 3000 € - 6500 €

Doktoral studies: 7000 € - 8500 €
