We hear about Waldorf education frequently these days. This approach has been developed by Rudolf Steiner after first World War for children of factory workers. According to this approach children are not appropriate for academic environment before the age 7.
Steiner believes that children learn better by using their imagination. In this approach all subjects are given in connection with art. There is no competition. Children don’t compete with each other. In this approach children are in the center. The class environment is like the environment at home. Materials are completely natural. Electronic devices and plastic materials are not used during class. By using simple materials, the imagination of child is strengthened. Wool, thread and pine cone may be an example. In this approach, everything has a time and there is no hurry. Steiner believes that every child is different and with appropriate conditions the skills reveal. The teacher supports language development with songs and stories. Children are accepted as children in the classroom. The teacher accepts that every child is different and behaves according to this. The quality of education is always more important than the speed.
On the basis of this approach children don’t compete with each other and respect one another.
