Simple Past Tense / Geçmiş Zaman Konu Anlatımı

Geçmiş zamanda gerçekleşen ve tamamlanan olayları ifade etmek için,

Geçmişte kalan, artık geçerli olmayan durumlar için,

Geçmiş zamanda ardı ardına olup biten olayları hikaye etmek için kullanılır.

Geçmiş zaman cümlelerde fiil (eylem) yoksa “be” (am, is, are) yardımcı fiillerini (was - were) şeklinde yazarak cümlelerimizi kurarız. 

Today -    I am a student. (Ben bir öğrenciyim.)                   

In the past -    I was a professor. (Ben bir profesördüm.)

Today -   He is a policeman. (O bir polis.)                         

In the past - He was a teacher. (O bir öğretmendi.)

Today -   She is a secretary. (O bir sekreter.)                       

In the past - She was a lawyer. (O bir avukattı.)

Today -   It is Sunday today. (Bu gün Pazar.)                   

In the past - It was a holiday yesterday. (Dün tatildi.)

Today -   We are at the bus stop now. (Bu gün otobüs durağındayız.)           

In the past - We were at work in the evening. (Akşam işteydik.)

Today -   They are at home now. (Onlar şimdi evde.)              

In the past - They were at work 3 hours ago. (Onlar 3 saat önce işteydiler.)

Positive (olumlu)                                          

am       →        was

is         →        was 

Negative (olumsuz)                           

am not →        wasn’t  

isn’t     →        wasn’t 

Question (Soru)

am / is →       was?

are      →       were?
